Introduction to High Performance/World Class Fundamentals  
… a one-day conversation that delivers the big picture in simple terms  

Description:
The objective of this one-day ‘first course’ is to provide all employees with the ‘Big Picture’ of what World Class/High Performance is all about and how winning companies are competing and winning in today’s global market place.  The roles and responsibilities involved in making it work are introduced in an open and highly interactive way.  The course began over 18 years ago and continues to be aimed at all employees in organizations embarking on the road to World Class.  Participants are introduced to the simple terms and realities of achieving World Class performance and what they can expect when working in a Continuous Improvement environment as well as what is required to be competitive into the 21st. Century.  The course is also designed to incorporate the needs of those who want to know what World Class performance means and what the winners are doing to succeed including the establishment of consortiums.

Prerequisites:  
To obtain maximum benefit, participants will be employed anywhere within the manufacturing infrastructure ~ from factory, sales, distribution, mgmt., warehouse, R&D, maintenance or within the supplier/customer chain. 

Format: 
One day.  Half-day sessions are done on request but do not permit complete coverage of all objectives listed below. Sessions are interactive, highly visual, with excellent videotapes and discussion sessions. Participants will be involved throughout.  Recommended class sizes typically range from 12-24 people for full interaction.  Sessions can go to 50 or 60 but with reduced interaction and dialogue. 

Objectives:  
Upon completion of this one-day interactive training session, participants will be able t
o:

  1. List 6 characteristics of world class organizations that define World Class/High Performance, and describe what organizations must do to compete and win globally
  2. Describe the 3 pillars of High Performance Manufacturing, what they mean - and 10 key aspects
  3. Understand what Lean manufacturing is, what it is not, and the 5 principles that drive it
  4. Describe a “no blame” environment and its importance to World Class performance
  5. Describe the difference between Customer Service and today’s need for Customer Success 
  6. Describe the terms: quality, customer (internal/external), empowerment, JIT, TQM, Continuous Improvement, Throughput, Cycle Time, ISO 9000, Six Sigma, etc. and how they fit together 
  7. Describe what employees can expect, and what is expected of employees in an Empowered, Team-Based, Continuous Improvement environment 
  8. Explain the 10 forms of waste and their importance to lean manufacturing 
  9. Discuss housekeeping (5S), its importance, the issues involved, your role, and basic approaches 
  10. Distinguish the basic communications needs - including, straight talk, generous listening, and communicating to develop positive win-win relationships & reduce conflict 
  11. Understand the need to focus on processes & standards and how they are typically established 
  12. Participate in open discussions
