5S and Visual Factory

Description:
Our 5S training offers a choice – a half-day intensive and interactive workshop that stands alone vs. the same workshop coupled with an onsite hands-on portion that applies the methods learned in the half-day session. Either may be chosen. This introductory training provides participants with the understanding and the tools to begin systematically implementing a safe, visual, and orderly workplace. It focuses on the 5-S’s which include Seiri (Tidy), Seiton (Orderly), Seiso (Clean), Seiketsu (Standardize), and Shitsuke (Self-Discipline) and explains in simple terms how these concepts contribute to a safe and effective North American company. Coupled with the 5-S training are discussions on how to make workplaces ‘visual’ including the concept of a “visual dashboard” where key performance measures are displayed simply and effectively. All content will relate to how 5-S and Visual Factory Methodologies have been used successfully.

The Onsite Implementation puts the concepts learned in the first session to work. Coordination with the host site is required in order to set up this portion. This session should be considered for those looking to establish an ongoing approach to building a visual environment in preparation for the application of visual management systems.

Prerequisites:
None. To obtain maximum benefit, participants will be employed anywhere within a Manufacturing/Operations infrastructure – including the factory, office, sales, distribution, management, warehouse, engineering, and maintenance.

Format:
All sessions are interactive, highly visual, with excellent slides and discussion sessions. Participants will be involved throughout. Class sizes typically range from 12-24 people. The implementation sessions are company-specific and require time in advance of the workshop to structure effective training.

Specific Objectives:
Upon completion of the half-day interactive training session, participants will:

Describe the 5 pillars of the Visual Workplace
Know the positive effects of implementing the 5S philosophy
Describe what benefits will be realized when a visual system is implemented
Know how to apply 5-S principles and practices to their work place
Understand the value of having a Visual work area and the impact on customers
Be able to recognize opportunities for improvement in the workplace
Be able to work in a team environment to implement changes
Begin the application of 5-S principles in a real-world environment
Establish a roadmap and a plan of action to initiate the use of 5S practices
Demonstrate the effectiveness of visual techniques
